It’s
Just A Yarn Thing
***NOTE***
As of the time of publishing, this pattern has not been tested
Materials:
I used I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby (you will only need
a small amount of yarn from a skein)
Hook Size US I
Measurements taken of your horse
Ruler
Scissors
Stitch marker if desired
Large needle for weaving in the ends
PomPom
Gauge: Does not matter if you have measured your
horse.
How to Take
Measurements
The following is for Murphy but you will easily be able to
adjust to the size of your horse.
From the outside of one ear to the outside of the other – 12”
Between his ears – 5”
From where I wanted the bonnet to sit above his eyes to just
past the back of his ears – 9” (I actually never measured this until I put the
bonnet on him. I did 11 rows of dc and 2 sc
and called it a fit)
***NOTE*** I have made many bonnets and the measurements we all pretty
close. The yarn stretches and once the bridle is on it will hold it in place.
Abbreviations:
() = number of stitches for that row
blo = back loop only
ch = Chain
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
Special Instructions:
Ch1 the beginning of the rows does not count as a stitch.
Pattern:
Band of the hat:
Ch11, turn
In the second ch from the hook, sc in the blo (10)
Ch 1 and continue sc in the blo until you reach the desired
length. For Murphy it was 11”. (10)
Fasten off
Body of hat:
Since murphy measured at 11” from outside to outside, and 5”
on the inside, I started the body of the hat 3.5” from the end of the band and
stopped at 3.5” from the end of the other side.
Attach yarn 3.5” from the end where you fastened off.
Sc across making sure to stop 3.5” from the end.
Turn, ch 2, dc across stopping at the beginning sc.
Turn, ch2 and continue this dc pattern until you reach 9” or
the desired height.
Fasten off
Ear Holes (See
diagram at the bottom)
Attach yarn to the 2nd chain from the end of the
band (A) with a sc.
Ch 15 and attach to the first chain at the top of the bonnet
(B)
Sc across
Ch 15 and attach to the 2nd ch from the end of
the band (D)
Sc to the last stitch on the band (E)
Sc in each of the sts on the ch 15
Sc across the top of the bonnet
Sc down the ch 15 and attach to the 1st st of the
band (F)
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Add a pom pom in the center of the top part of the hat.
